Carnival Development Fund 2010

Following a successful first year, we're now inviting funding applications from groups for their 2010 Carnival projects. You can pick up an application form HERE.

Our 2009 grants were awarded to the following successful applicants:

  • The Wight Strollers whose theme was Young At Heart. You might remember this group of 30+ for their amazing Flying Fockers routine in 2008!
  • Gatten & Lake Primary School based last year's entry on the film Happy Feet and it's underlying environmental messages
  • Sandown Youth & Community Centre whose Space Disco theme celebrated the club's silver anniversary
  • Brading Community Group's Space Race theme commemorated the 40th anniversary of the lunar landing and the 400th anniversary of Galileo's use of the telescope
  • The Baxter Massive worked to the theme of Fantasia with costumes influenced by the popular film.

A Clean Sweep!

Sandown wins BOTH Junior and Senior Queen of Queens! Amy Wright won the Senior category and Emily Abbott the Junior category.

Both girls were up against all of the carnival queens from the other island towns and judged by an independent group from around the island. At the end of the night both Amy and Emily were announced as the Junior and Senior Queen of Queens for 2009 - the first time a junior and senior queen from the same town have both won in over five years!

Congratulations Amy & Emily!!
