Celebrating the 125th anniversary of our first carnival in 1889 - the second-ever in the UK!
The whole of the Isle of Wight is carnival crazy! With well over 20 different public events each summer and several more throughout the year, thousands of locals and groups from further afield gather to entertain tens of thousands of residents and visitors alike.
With 5 significant public events of our own, each year we aim to make our events bigger, brighter and better than those that have gone before!
To this end our main summer carnivals have now developed into "all-day" affairs with pre-carnival entertainments and events taking place around the town well into the evenings when our fantastic processions bring the events to a memorable conclusion.
All Sandown Carnival events are FREE to attend, staffed by a dedicated team of volunteers who endlessly fund raise to ensure that future events can continue to take place.
2014 is Sandown Carnival's 125th Anniversary and we are planning the biggest and best carnival events ever!
The fun kicks off with a special ANNIVERSARY CONCERT taking place on Friday 11th July - the exact date of our first carnival in 1889. Featuring the best local family entertainment, the crowning of the 2014 Carnival Queens and a fireworks finale, this will be a "picnic on the lawn" type event suitable for all the family - and it will be FREE to attend!
Children's Day takes place on Friday 25th July, Main Carnival on Saturday 26th July and our stunning Illuminated Carnival on Wednesday 27th August. Put these dates in your diaries - they're going to be really special!
We round off the carnival season with our very popular November Carnival & Fireworks event which this year takes place on Saturday 1st November and is HALLOWE'EN THEMED!
